Lights out? Do not panic
Some quick, safe things you can do while we are on our way. Most take less than a minute.

Six calm things to try first
General advice only. If you ever feel unsafe, leave the building and call us.
Check the neighbours
If their lights are on too, it is probably the grid. If only you are dark, carry on.
Look at your fuse box
A switch pointing down has tripped. Push it back up once. If it will not stay, leave it and call us.
Unplug the usual suspects
Kettles, heaters and old gadgets are common culprits. Unplug them, then try again.
Water near electrics?
Keep clear, switch off at the fuse box if it is dry and safe to reach, and call us.
Smell burning?
Switch off at the fuse box if you can, leave the room and call us. If you see flames, call 999.
Torches and phones
Keep a torch handy, charge your phone and avoid candles near curtains.
Call right away if you have…
- Burning smells or scorch marks
- Sparks or buzzing from a socket
- No power with little ones or elderly people at home
- Water near sockets or lights
